Issue 2

July What we've done What we’ve done
We’ve completed a first round of research with women in Nigeria around one hypothesis sourced from the GE D&I team relating to counseling and education for vaginal insertable products:

If women are provided education, counseling, and the opportunity to try new vaginal insertable products (like the dapivirine ring), they will show an increase in user acceptance and sustained interest over time.

We’ve partnered with women in Northern and Southern Nigeria representing 5 Pathways vulnerabilities segments. Specifically, we’ve conducted:

We’re continuing to engage these women between research cycles via WhatsApp, following up with targeted questions.

Following these initial focus groups, we transcribed, translated, cleaned, tagged, and reviewed 35 transcripts and uploaded this data to the Labs Platform.
Where we are

We’re currently organizing the data points into findings, which are a way to organize raw data into themes that describe the objective “what” of the phenomena that are present. As we move forward with the research, more findings will be uploaded and they will be continually refined to ensure they are specific and impactful.

We've also begun to upload this initial set of data and findings to the Labs Platform from research in Nigeria relating to counseling and education for vaginal insertable products. We will provide access to this platform in future updates including instructions on how to use it in your work. Currently our team is processing the raw data and triangulating it with available qualitative data from the Pathways work to synthesize insights that we will share with you in future updates.
Where we’re headed

We’ll continue to add data, findings, and insights to the Labs Platform as we further engage with women in Nigeria and expand to Kenya and Senegal. The goal is to create a clear path for the GE D&I team to connect research hypotheses to real-world stories, quotes, and insights gathered from the women themselves.

In future updates, you’ll be provided access to the Labs Platform, where you’ll be able to view the Nigeria insights, findings and data, along with:

We’ll also begin to explore additional hypotheses with women in Nigeria to generate more insights, findings and data.

Dodo Design
Catapult is collaborating with Dodo Design, a research-driven design consulting firm based out of Africa that helps organizations discover their market’s truest needs and bring valuable solutions to market. Dodo is a current partner collaborating with the GE Division and Catapult Design in the Making it Real project.

Dodo is the on-the-ground research lead as we engage Nigerian women for the hypotheses, and sharpen the findings into insights and opportunity areas.

During the initial immersion, DODO has facilitated the following:
